BLUEBERRY

By Kat | November 26, 2009

Here’s a peek at the artwork for PH07…

Awesome huh?!

‘Blueberry’ from Late Of The Pier is coming out as a download in December and a double A side single with ‘Best In Class’ will follow in Feb 2010.

The first ever play of Blueberry was aired on the third installment of Erol’s 6 Mix residency on BBC6 Music, which you can listen to here.

Best In Class got a fantastic re-work last night at the Pigalle club as Sam from lotp made a guest appearance with Gonzales to perform an incredible duet (along with some guitar smashing). Here are my rubbish camera phone snaps:

3 – 7pm. Okay, the shizzle’s really getting dizzling now. The chores are done and the hustling is over. It’s party time, the tea’s been packed away and the fizzy pop is out. There’s only one song, and I freaked when I first heard this, really, truly freaked. Ofo and the Black Company with Allah Wakbarr. Please, play it LOUD.

11 – 3pm. Anything could happen during this time. A cup of tea could just as easily be accompanied by a Hobnob as it could a McVities Digestive or Pink Wafer. However if I want the temperature turning up and the dance floor filled with a skinny man in long johns and a vest tipping hot refreshments and biscuit crumbs everywhere then Greetings by Joni Haastrup gets boomed.

7 – 11am. Arise from another bountiful slumber interrupted only temporarily at sunrise by the piercing sound, akin only to the feeling of a serrated knitting needle being thrust into one’s ear, of coots in the midst of their morning sex fight. Perhaps. After this staggered but acceptable awakening (animals have lives too) only one song makes any sense at the moment, Lingling Yu’s fdv.

BANGKOK

By Kat | October 30, 2009

BANGKOK

We are proud to present our sixth release, ‘Bangkok’ by Boris Dlugosch. Already a staple in Erol Alkan’s recent club sets, ‘Bangkok’ (co-produced/written with Raik Fargo of Hey Today!) has been one of the most enquired about records in recent memory.
Remix duties are provided by London’s fast rising Roska, whose recent ‘Kicks & Snares EP’ has won fans all over Europe.
‘Bangkok’ is released today initially as a download exclusive through Beatport, followed by a very limited vinyl edition.

Maman

By Kat | October 24, 2009

Hervé Siard, the brains behind the compilation ‘Sisters’, launches his label ‘Maman’ tonight in Paris. First release is an EP by Sheraff which features remixes from Passion Pit, Secret Music (Chase from Yes Giantes), Logo and We Are Enfant Terrible.  Hervé describes Sheraff as ‘une bande de loosers’ on tsugi…Errr, I don’t think that needs translating.

The soiree is at two venues one early/one late (I’ve been to things like this in Paris before, why the need for two venues?!). Avant: Sans Soucis (65, rue pigalle), apres: Moune (54, rue pigalle). Facebook event page.

RETRO/GRADE

By Benjamin | October 23, 2009

I’m not here to talk to you about Retro/Grade. The game you play as ace pilot, Rick Rocket, who must repeat his last space battle in reverse in order to protect the space time continuum or Retrograde Ejaculation the unfortunate condition where semen travels into the bladder rather than exiting the body, but that of Retro/Grade the Italo-disco project from Serge Santiago and Tom Neville.

Their debut single ‘MODA’ was released on super limited vinyl and has been supported by the likes of Erol Alkan, Simian Mobile Disco, A-Trak, Annie Mac, Kissy Sellout, Pete Tong, Riton, Trevor Jackson, DJ Mehdi, Brodinski and Seth Troxler to name drop a few! Their second single ‘ZOID’ is out in November and full album is due early 2010 and has everyone salivating at the mouth. Inspired by a time between disco and house where synths were used with disco and when drum machines were used to keep a track in time, their tunes have an authentic Italo sound without any of the corniness that comes with much of this harking back to a bygone era. Clearly designed for devastating dance floors and Retro/Grade do that with ease… they are gonna be huge so keep your eyes on this project as it’s solid gold!

Get over to RCRDLLBL for a free radio edit of their debut single MODA.
